Any one using the Harbor Freight hitch mounted moto carrier? Does it work, does it break, is it too much for a Jeep to carry, help, please.

I use one very similar. http://www.discountramps.com/motorcycle-carrier.htm
Notice the HF one uses a bolt thru the spokes on the front wheel where the DR one uses a drop in style on the front. Both are ladder type so the bike doesn't roll smoothly on or off. Ya have to lift it a few inches to get it up out of the front tire area.
I like my DR one other than that. Can't beat it for the price but if I did it again I'd shop my local CL for a Joe Hauler or similar that the bike rolls smoothly on.
Hope this helps.

I have a double bike carrier like the ones you are looking at that I didn't like. It was too high up on my lifted 4Runner to load up comfortably by myself. PITA to get off after the front wheel is in the last slot
. I had to call my friend to come over and help me off-load. I'd be happy to let you use it and see if it's something that you would like. Just let me know.

Re: Hitch mounted moto carrier?
I have the HF carrier and would be willing to let anyone use it to test it out, if they wanted to. Only issue is that I'm out in the desert (El Centro) and don't think I have a trip to SD planned over the next couple of weeks. If you want to come out here and pick it up....
Not the easiest to load a bike on, due to the ladder design, but it seems to work well and is effective.

Man, I just looked online at a website that shows capacities and my 07 Avalanche 4X4 is only rated to carry 260lbs ! That's not enough! I think it was the Versa Hauler (?) brand web!!! WTF?

http://www.vehix.com/car-reviews/2007/c ... ifications Shows 600 lb tongue wt avail. Plenty for most single rail plus a DS bike. I carried a DR650 800 miles on my Tundra...shouldn't be a problem on yours.

Check your owners manual and the door jamb on the drivers door. If it's still not evident what the limit is on your truck, run by the dealer and have them tell you.
I'd bet Crawdaddy's next paycheck you'd be okay....but find out for sure and go shoppin'...
Oh yeah - I added Firestone airbags to eliminate the sag (found 'em lowest $$$ at Summit Racing) http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FIP-4108/
Mine were not inside the coil type and $150 more than these. My neighbor just had these installed on his Chev SUV (same platform as the Avalanche) and he's towing a 24 foot toybox loaded.

My girl truck ('03 Xterra) has a 500lb tongue weight max and 5000lb tow max, and carries my girl bike just fine. So, I'm sure your Chevy can do more than that.
Re: Hitch mounted moto carrier?
Might be called a girl bike, but it's weight is manly.

Hmmm, I wonder why Versa Haul has such conservative numbers listed? I know they are factoring in the leverage factor as wel since it hangs about 2 feet behind the truck, could that make that much difference?
